House Bill 3592 - December 11, 2007

Posted by Webmaster

Important news from the AMA webstie:

State Legislation Would Make It Illegal for Anyone under the Age of 14 to Operate an ATV, Dirtbike or Snowmobile. Reports indicate that the bill may soon emerge from the Joint Committee on Transportation.

House bill 3592 would make it illegal for anyone under that age of 14 to operate an ATV, off-highway motorcycle or snowmobile. It would also place stringent limits on the use of ATVs by anyone under the age of 16 and would mandate safety training for all riders under the age of 18.

Officially this bill has not moved since it was referred to the Joint Committee on Transportation in June. However, some reports indicate that the Committee may soon attempt to pass out a re-write of the bill.

This article can be found on the AMA website, along with a form letter opposing this bill to send to your elected officials. There is no link that will take you directly to this page, but it can be found by visiting http://www.amadirectlink.com/legisltn/rapidresponse.asp and clicking on "Issues" and then clicking on the second "Action Alert" link.
